Grand finale for JAS 09
Jaipur, The mega international level jewellery show – JAS 09 – end in a grand style. The show culminated on Monday with huge bookings and large-scale sales. The grand finale of the show was marked by bulk order booking of NRIs and traders from outside Jaipur. The show also witnessed heavy buying of marriage jewellery on the ultimate day. The next edition of the show has been scheduled from 6 August to 9 August 2010.

No show can be successful without contribution from dedicated workers. It applies to JAS 09 also. Two years back when the show was launched, no one had imagined that the show would touch such level. The success of the show goes to dedicated efforts of its workers, which have made it an international level show.
Jaipur Jewellers Association and Show committee president Vivek Kala said that the credit for the grand success of the show. “The success of the show proves that market is looking up. Jaipur needs an exhibition center. The exhibition center will give a new direction to the traditional business and would contribute to the manifold growth of the trade,” he said.
Jaipur Jewellers Association general secretary Kishan Das Jhanwar said that the show was a great success and jewellers have done business beyond their expectations. “While traders went berserk for booking orders for the festive season ahead, customers went on the buying spree for the marriage season,” he said adding that the next edition of the show would witness 30 to 40% more exhibitors.
JAS09 convenor Nirmal Bardia said that amid trends of global meltdown, the hosting of show was a great challenge. “But we were assured that the show, defying all the speculations about the recession, will attain new milestones. Jaipur jewellery industry is driven by local market and global downturn would not have any impact. The numbers of visitors have also increased in this show,” he said.
He said that he will try to ease the custom rules till the next show, so that foreign exhibitors can also participate in large number in the show.
The media incharge of the show Sanjay Kala said that modern communication means were implemented to reach out to masses. To this effect more than 70 emails were posted along with extensive use of telecalling and SMS. Information about JAS-09 were flashed on leading jewellery magazines just after the culmination of JAS-08. Mumbai gems and Jewellery Association apprised about the JAS –09 to every visitors of their show and to all the members associated with it. Similarly, the information of JAS-09 was made available on mobiles also.
JAS 09 advisor Mahaveer Sharma said that there were elaboprate security arrangements for the show. The number of security guards was increased in consonance with the number of visitors in the show. Jewellers coming outside from Jaipur were provided with hotel rooms at reasonable rates. “There was special parking arrangements and 20 shuttle vehicles were deployed for to and fro movement in the show. Special security arrangements were made during the show along with facilities of medical attention, ambulance and fire brigade to meet any untoward incident. Ramps and lift facilities were also provided for senior citizens and physically challenged visitors.
Jaipur Jewellers Association vice president Rajendra Saaboo said that exhibitors were provided with lunch facilities during the show in which seasonable foot items were served. Similarly, there was a provision for a canteen also where food items including Italian, South Indian, fast food, Ice cream and Juices were provided at reasonable rates.
Show committee member Pramod Derewala organised the jewellery design award in the show. He said that the aim of the award is to promote designers who endeavour to come up with latest and innovative designs every time. The theme of the competition - A Journey through Colours. The entries for the competition were invited in four categories – wedding jewellery bride, wedding jewellery groom, casual wear jewellery and fashion accessories.
Show committee member Rajesh Dhamani said that the exhibition hall JAS 09 was centrally air conditioned. Drinking water facilities and resting zones were provided at regular distance in the show. For the convenience of exhibitors who turned up in large numbers, fax, zerox, wi fi, internet and other facilities were made available at the show. The aim of the show was to provide a common platform to leading jewellers from across the country and provide them the latest information about the industry. For this, a seminar of benefit of Fair Trade was also organised on July 5, 2009.
Show committee member Dinesh Malpani said that in the era of globalisation, website is a medium through which one can reach out to a large number of people across the globe. The website of the show was redesigned loading it with latest information. It has benefited the show a lot. The show received registration and participation from across the globe and the number of exhibitors also increased due to the new look comprehensive website. The information JAS –09 was also made available on mobiles so that it reached to the common masses.
Show committee member Arun Gokhroo said that the show was organised at reasonable cost. Every penny used in the show counts and provides maximum value. The exhibitors are at a great risk due to high value jewellery. The need to cover their risk was felt and the association came up with an insurance cover for the show exhibitors at a reasonable premium. The premium was merely Rs 4500 covering risk of value worth Rs 1 crore.
Show committee member Vijay Kedia said that show witnessed more than 400 NRIs and 1000 pre registered traders. Similarly, the number of visitors was more than 20,000 out of which 4000 came from outside Jaipur. Eminent visitors graced the show on all the four days of the show. Tourism minister Bina Kak, Member of Parliament Ramdas Agrawal, Cine star Prem Chopra, MLA Ashok Parnami and Mayor Pankaj Joshi among others visited the show and indulged in jewellery shoppin.
Show committee member Vijay Godika and Sudhir Tholia said that 10 registration counters were set up for the convenience of visitors out of which 5 counters were pre registration counters for Media personnel, NRIs and foreigners. The entry to the show was through Luck Draw tickets. Every day there was a prize of jewellery worth Rs 50,000 each on lucky coupon selected through draw. On the last day, the prize went up to jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh. The number of the luck coupons on the first, second and third day was 010563, 013258 and 002361 respectively.
