Dispelling all the fears of global downturn, the mega jewellery show - JAS 10 attracted jewellers and visitors from across the globe. The business hours dedicated to B2B (business to business clients) showed big promises for the jewellery trade. A jeweller from Spain and regular to JAS shows Hectar said that he comes to Jaipur only to watch the show, which displays never-seen jewellery items. Apart from being a business trip, it`s a learning experience for me. Jaipur has a rich jewellery tradition. We get the best deal in this show, he said.
Another jeweller from Mumbai Vivek Arora said that he has come to Jaipur to explore business possibilities. I import handmade necklace from Jaipur. Apart from getting to know new designs, we also get introduced to new jewellers which can build new business tie-ups,he said.
On display are a wide range of loose colour stone and jewellery products. Youth are loving the gold and diamond jewellery crafted keeping in mind the new fashion trends. Similarly, hand made kundan meena jewellery sets, Thewa, Sozo jewellery, traditional jewellery, contemporary fusion jewellery have become a rage for visitors in the show. The show also has a wide range of silver, platinum and certified diamond jewellery.
A seminar on Benefit of fair trade in emerging market was held on the second day of the show. The keynote speaker of the seminar Fair Trade Forum India executive director I Mallikarjuna said that interests right from craftsmen to customers are safeguarded in trade fairs. The fair trade is an outcome of a joint effort by European customers and Indian artisans. He said that a few rules have been outlined which are essential for fair trade. The first and foremost rule is to think about what and how much benefit others are deriving from such fairs. The second is transparency. There has to be clear transparency about the cost price and profit of goods. The third rule implies to the trading practices prevalent in the trade. It related to the relationship between trader and artisans. What kind of facilities is being provided to the artisans and what kind of relationship is being shared with them The fourth point relates the disbursement of reasonable wages
to the artisans, he said.
Apart from that, he emphasised on alleviation of child labour and discrimination between the two sexes. The entrepreneurs should provide conducive and healthy work environment to he artisans, he said.
Besides, the result of the lucky draw coupons of the first day of the show was also announced. The lucky number was 010563 and the winner would get jewellery products worth Rs 50,000 from Kishan Agrawal.
On Sunday, the organizers have planned a unique event for the face book members at 4.00 pm.. Grand opening of the show
Even rains could not pour water on the spirits of jewellery afficianoados. If the scale of crowd is any indication, the first day of the mega jewellery show - JAS 10 - belied all the speculation of the ill effects of global meltdown. The visitors were so eager to watch the spectacle of jewellery that they came in hordes even before the show was formally open. The opening ceremony of the show was marked with a huge cavalcade of horses and elephants, which were lined up to welcome the visitors and exhibitors to the show. At the inaugural day, a huge number of NRIs and foreign visitors visited the show.
Inauguration
The show was formally inaugurated by home minister Sh. Shanti Dhariwal and tourism minister Ms Beena Kak. Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council president Vasant Mehta and all India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation chairman C Vinod Hayagriv were the chief guests of the function. After the inaugural ceremony, prizes were distributed to the winners of the JAS show theme competition - A Journey through colours.
Exhibition Centre to be launched soon : Bina Kak
In her inaugural speech, tourism minister Bina Kak said that the city would soon have an exhibition centre to host shows of such magnitude. "The previous Congress government had taken some affirmative actions to launch an exhibition centre in Jaipur. Now this government will take this forward as jewellery industry badly needs such centre for growth," she said. Ms Kak said that the JAS- Show will also become part of the tourism calendar. It will not only boost tourism but also the jewellery sector as the show pulls a large number of tourists to Jaipur. She said Teej is festival of colours. The JAS- 10 is a fitting tribute to this festival as the show emanates different shades and colours of gems and jewellery under one roof. "Jaipur is a unique jewel of the world. This show has added more luster and colour to this jewel," she said. The show has also displayed new generation fashion jewellery items which depicts how crazy is the young generation towards jewellery and fashion. Addressing the gathering at the inaugural function, Jaipur Jewellers Association president Vivek Kala said that India has no competition in handmade jewellery. "If exhibition centre gets way in Jaipur, the jewellery business will see tremendous growth in Jaipur," he said. Mr Kala said that the previous Congress government had reserved 15000 sq metre of land for the centre. Since then no concrete steps were taken in this direction. That is the reason the demand of Jaipur Jewellers to have an exhibition centre is still unmet. JAS convenor Nirmal Bardia, sharing information about the show, said that 1200 jewellers from outside Jaipur had done registration for the show. All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation chairman C Vinod Hayagriv in his address said that the 20-year old youth has come up with a new demand in the country’s jewellery industry. Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council president Vasant Mehta said that the show is grand and the retail market will be benefited from the show. After that ambassadors of various countries visited the show and shared the emerging business opportunities with jewellers. There was a great craze for exclusive jewellery items. The exhibition showcased wide range of loose colour gemstone, gold jewellery, coloured stone jewellery, diamond jewellery, silver jewellery, platinum jewellery, certified diamond designer jewellery. Similarly, also on display is an exclusive range of kundan meena jewellery, Thewa Sozo jewellery, traditional jewellery, contemporary jewellery and fusion jewellery.

The first prize in the casual wear category was won by Astha Choraria of Jaipur. The award was designed by Akad gems. The second prize in this category, which was designed by Think Jewellery, was won by Kriti Jain. The third prize created by Motisons Jewellers was won by Deependra Kaur. In the fashion jewellery category, the first prize designed by Lifestyle Jewellers, was won by Rashi Jain of Jaipur. The second prize of this category was won by Mahima Varma of Delhi. The award was designed by Ratanchand Jewellers. The third prize designed by Charu Jewellers was bagged by Mohirul Islam of Surat. In the wedding jewellery groom category, both the first and second prizes were won by Tarul Jain of Jaipur. Both the awards were designed by Silgold. The third prize of this category which was designed by B R Design was won by Dilip Shah of Surat. In the wedding jewellery bride, the first prize designed by International Gem was bagged by Bhagwan Das Dangayach of Jaipur. The second prize of this category which was designed by Birdhichand Ghanshyam Das was won by Nawal Agrawal of Jaipur. The third prize designed by Daksh Jewellers was clinched by Rajiv Bothra of Jaipur.
JAS 10 preparation in full swing
Preparations for the grand jewellery show- JAS 10 are in full swing. Jewellers are gearing up to showcase best of their creativities at the show. All the stalls of the show would be centrally air-conditioned. The installation of air conditioners at the venue Birla Auditorium is in the last stage. Exhibitors are busy designing their booths as per their choice. More than 30 agencies and 1000 workers are being deployed to design the booth and meet the deadline 10 am, 23 July. On July 23, the entire venue would be handed over to the security agency to ensure full fledged security. Exhibitors would be provided with additional lights, showcase and safe on demand. The team engaged in light fitting is completing their job at fast pace. Canteen and lunch area is complete with water proof dome mounted on it to safeguard the area from monsoon rains. Security agencies are keeping a tight watch on the development of the work. The media center and business center for jewellers are on the verge of completion.
Special arrangements have been made for the parking at the show. Twenty shuttle vehicles have been deployed for the to and fro of visitors from parking to the show venue. Rest areas and drinking water facilities would be available at regular spacing in the exhibition hall. For the conveyance of jewellers, business centre has been made which is equipped with fax, Xerox, wi fi, internet and other necessary resources. During the show ambulance, fire brigade and medical facilities will be ready to be pressed into service. There would be tight and elaborate security arrangement for the show. For the aged and physically challenged visitors, ramps and lift facilities would also be provided. A canteen is also being planned which will not only offer lunches to the exhibitors but also provide food items to visitors at concessional rates. The complete exhibition hall would be centrally air conditioned with power back up.

JAS 0 Exhibitors Meet held
Jaipur, Gem of jewellery showsJAS is round the corner. A step forward, organisers of JAS held an exhibitors meet at hotel Bella Casa in which more than 200 exhibitors participated. Apart from sharing information about the preparation of the grand show, organizers apprised jewellers about the development works undertaken by the Jaipur Jewellers Association. On this occasion, association president Vivek Kala, while sharing about the works of association, said that the association has been credited with various accomplishments.
